"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" Summer 2007 Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the popular Broadway musical based on the Biblical story of Joseph and the "coat of many colors", was presented Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21st ,at 7:30pm and for matinees at 2:30 on Saturday, July 21st and Sunday, July 22nd at the PKW Performing Art Center at Gaston Day School, 2001 Gaston Day School Rd., Gastonia. It was a co-production of Gaston School of the Arts Playhouse, the theatre for young people, and Gaston Day School. Tickets: $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Joseph was written by the famous British team of Andrew LLoyd Weber and Tim Rice, and was first presented in 1968. It has become an enduring classic. This production has been updated in costuming and sets by co-directors Christopher Lawing , GSOA Playhouse artistic director, and Holly Mason, Gaston Day School artistic director. The show follows the story of Joseph, whose father Jacob favors him above all his 12 sons and gives him the gift of a coat of many colors. The brothers' revenge is to fake Joseph's death and sell him into slavery. Joseph ends up in Egypt, and is elevated from slave to advisor by the Pharoah due to his ability to interpret dreams. Joseph is about the power of jealousy, revenge and forgiveness, and is well-loved for its humorous lyrics and tuneful score, which ranges from calypso to country-western to pop, and includes the hit, "Any Dream Will Do." |
