Faculty
GSOA faculty members are required to hold 4 year college degrees, or the equivalent professional experience. Many faculty members hold advanced degrees in their fields. As a partner with Gaston County Schools, GSOA requires background checks on faculty members.  GSOA employs between 17-22 part-time faculty members each year. Adults and young people can take individual music lessons and visual art lessons. There are weekly lessons in drama organized in six week sessions for  young people during the school year and week-long summer drama camps. GSOA Playhouse, the School's theatre for young people, holds auditions for its productions which are open to the public

For times for group lessons, please click on registration forms at left. Individual lessons need to be scheduled with each instructor by calling 704-866-8882.

For biographies on individual faculty members, please click on the tabs at left. Each tab is described briefly below.

1. Instrumental: Individual lessons for young people and adults in banjo, cello, guitar, mandolin, percussion, piano, violin, woodwinds (clarinet, flute, oboe, saxophone). Age requirements: Each faculty member has his or her own age requirements, but in general, 1st grade or 2nd grade is the youngest most instructors take students for individual lessons.

2. Voice: Individual lessons for young people and adults. Age requirements: Most GSOA voice instructors begin individual lessons at approximately 10-11 years of age after an assessment for readiness of the student's vocal chords.

3. Drama: GSOA has drama classes with limited class-size enrollment on Mondays and Tuesdays for young people throughout the school year, and group drama camps for young people during the summer. Any young person in the area may also audition for GSOA Playhouse's productions during the year.

4. Youth Art: GSOA has afternoon art classes for ages kindergarten through 8th grade during the school year and week-long art camps for young people during the summer months. High school students may also take adult oil & acrylics on Tuesdays with Instructor Mrs. Holt Harris from 4-6:30pm.

5. Adult Art: GSOA has adult oil & acrylics, watercolor, oil and jewelry-making scheduled in sessions throughout the year. For a schedule of days and times, please click on the Classes and Registration button at left and then the adult art registration form link.
