Mr. Steven Jepson - Voice
| Mr. Jepson has taught at Gaston School of the Arts since moving to the area in 2006 from Chicago. He sings professionally in opera, musical theatre and concert performances around the country. He has appeared in leading operatic roles including Don Pasquale, The Barber of Seville, The Merry Widow, The Marriage of Figaro, Romeo and Juliet, La Boheme, The Magic Flute and Faust. He made his European debut as Escamillo in Carmen, and has reprised the role with many companies in the United States. His musical theatre experience includes such diverse roles as Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Juan Peron in Evita, Ko-Ko in The Mikado and Sweeney in Sweeney Todd. His concert experience includes his debut at Carnegie Hall in Schubert’s Mass in G, where he also appeared in Britten’s War Requiem, under the baton of Robert Shaw. A specialist in Vaughan-Williams, he has performed the Sea Symphony and the Mystical Songs with many orchestras. Mr. Jepson was the first recipient of the Baughman Artistry Award at the Kansas City Metropolitan Opera Competition, and was also named the outstanding male performer at the 1996 Friedrich Schorr Vocal Competition and is a past winner of the Concerto/Aria competition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa, a Master’s Degree from Louisiana State University and has done post-graduate study at the University of Missouri Conservatory of Music. Mr. Jepson has been a voice instructor and coach since 1986. He is married and has one daughter. |
